For Infusions, It's the Wave of the Future

What if your at-home infusions looked like this?

This is the Porthole: the latest in wave-of-the-future kitchen tools, created to “time lapse” infuse liquids from gin to olive oil to your favorite teas. It’s a brainchild of Grant Achatz’s Aviary and design firm Crucial Design -- they needed infusions for their drinks, and they wanted them to evolve over the time it took to sip them dry.

The name is fitting, and so is the concept: drinks infused like these would be would be like looking into another world, space, and time. If you couldn’t tell already, the design direction was nudged significantly by the submarine portal in Karel Zeman’s “The Fabulous World of Jules Verne.”

After using these vessels regularly in Aviary, and regularly having them either asked about (or worse, stolen), the team behind the Porthole has decided to produce them on a larger scale. Which is good, because we’ve always been a proponent of futuristic cocktail-infusers for the people. Keep a close eye on yours though, they’ve been known to go missing.
