Yesterday, the heavy metal community lost Ozzy Osbourne, one of the most beloved artists in the genre, just weeks after an epic final performance and reunion with Black Sabbath, in Birmingham UK. Ozzy was to heavy metal music, as Dolly Parton is to country, and Britney Spears is to pop music—a pioneer and representation of the genre. Talk to any fan of heavy metal and you will hear about Ozzy and Black Sabbath today.

In a statement, his family shared: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love."

Known as The Prince Of Darkness and not shy to scandal and controversy throughout his storied career, offstage he was a family man, a goofball, and in a way a philanthropist—always lending a hand to up and coming bands, featuring them on tour, and donating to charities. Ozzy's final show raised $190 million, all split between Cure Parkinson's, Birmingham Children's Hospital, and Acorn Children's Hospice. He wasn't afraid to show all sides of his persona to the public.

Despite how things look (and sound) on the outside, heavy metal music and culture at its core represents freedom of self-expression, being authentic and true to oneself, fierce love and loyalty to community, and to art. Ozzy embodied all of these things, and knew how to laugh at himself too.

In honor of the late rockstar, we’re blasting his music in the Test Kitchen and remembering some of his favorite things, which led us down a path of discovering that he was notorious for certain food cravings. His love of Chipotle, for example, sparked a decades-long marketing campaign—their celebrity card. These are a few of the favorite meals we found, and some funny food moments we’re rewatching. Ozzy, you will be missed!

Burritos

Upon a quick search, this is probably the most well-known food he loved. People on Reddit are already trying to pinpoint his exact order. His obsession with burritos was well documented on his reality show, The Osbournes, where he would continually ask people if they wanted one.

Over the years, these moments have inspired a slew of memes, like: “I wish someone would look at me the way Ozzy looks at a burrito being made.”

Chipotle

More specifically, he loved Chipotle. So much so that he was supposedly the first person to receive the coveted Celebrity Chipotle Card—and potentially the only person ever with lifetime access. For most other notable athletes, influencers, and a few lucky fans, the card gives access for a year or two. But apparently, his founding card gave him unlimited access to the chain in the form of free daily meals.

In fact, Chipotle started the program after he raved about them on his show.

Carrot Cake

It also seems that his love of carrot cake has surfaced in different ways—so much so that bakeries are even offering free slices of the flavor in his honor today.

Apparently, his wife Sharon Osbourne used to make it for him, and this also came up on the show.

Here’s our best recipe inspired by his sweet tooth.

Pink Lady Apples

An apple a day, they say—but how about 30? Supposedly, that’s how many Pink Lady apples he dreamed of eating every day. He mentioned this favorite snack that he obsessed over on his podcast, The Osbournes, last December—which was later picked up by UK publications.

Curry

In trying to find the origins of this one, it seems to trace back to “Ozzy’s Chicken Curry,” a featured recipe by Ozzy Osbourne in the Rock’n’Roll Cuisine Cookbook. Supposedly, he loved a late-night curry, too.

There’s another bit of lore that he once requested an Italian restaurant to make him curry while dining with his wife.

Other places have covered this story over the years—and we’re loving this headline: “Ozzy Osbourne’s Hilarious Love of Curry

Blackened Chicken Lasagna

The origins of this one were a little harder to pinpoint, but it seems to be widely known that he loved blackened chicken lasagna—and lasagna in general. Pretty much any google search of his favorite food will lead you to this dish. Since then, fans have recreated the recipe.
