Welcome to Come On Over, a Food52 newsletter about hosting life’s big and little moments. It’s where we share our personal tips and tricks, from modern-day etiquette—shoes off or shoes on?—to making extra seating out of every surface of an apartment. This week, Kelly’s focusing on taking a break—with a bit of prep.
Has this summer felt hectic to anyone else? I’ve been running on all cylinders lately, so I decided it was time to hit pause—and bring friends along for the reset. A wellness morning at home shouldn’t add to your stress, but like anything worth doing, a little planning goes a long way. Honestly, I can’t think of a nicer way to spend a weekend morning. I hope these tips help guide your relaxation.

1. Scent the Scene
This is the moment to finally light that “special occasion” candle you’ve been hoarding. We’re going for full sensory bliss, so scent gets just as much attention as soft lighting and comfort. Think lavender in the air, incense curling through the room, soft blankets and pillows everywhere, and plenty of cozy spots for lounging.

2. That’s a Stretch
Yogi or not, a good stretch makes everything feel better. Queue up a short YouTube flow ahead of time so you can guide everyone through a few easy poses. Do it right at the start—it’s a great way to shake off the week and ease into the morning. Consider putting together a mini agenda on Canva and printing it out so guests know what to expect, and don’t start too early unless all your friends are early birds.

3. Hydration Station
Break out the good glassware and set up pitchers or jugs so guests can sip as they need. Dress it up with fruit and herb combos—maybe strawberries + mint, lime + basil, or orange + rosemary—for hydration that feels just that little extra special. Different kinds of tea (hot or iced) are always recommended.

What you need.4. Keep It Light
Y’all gotta eat, but keep it on the lighter side. Egg bites, salads, yogurt parfaits, overnight oats with a DIY toppings bar, and big, colorful fruit platters. Save the rich, heavy indulgences for another day—the goal is to nourish, not knock everyone into a food coma. Savor words and conversation instead, maybe with group journaling or meditation.

5. No Screens, Please
This is the perfect opportunity for a digital detox. Do yourself and your friends a favor and lock up the phones for the morning. The goal is to stay present, and you can’t do that if Instagram notifications keep pinging.

6. Parting Gifts
Send guests home with a little something to keep the good vibes going, like homemade tea sachets, tiny potted succulents, or vials of calming essential oils. A small token, but a lasting reminder of the morning. Plus, it’s an easy signal to get everyone to leave when you’re ready to be done!
